2018 Christmas Greenhouse Tour

Most children dream of getting a chance to visit Santa’s workshop, to see where all the toys are made and to watch the assembly lines where the elves piece every toy together...Santa’s workshop, where all the Christmas magic begins!

I was a bit different when I was a kid, I longed for the feeling of Christmas….a feeling that consumes you, an overwhelming sensation that touches all the senses and makes your spirit happy! Like the feeling when the Christmas light switch is thrown on and the Boston Common becomes a dazzling, multi-colored wonderland, with strings of lights dripping from historic trees that are hundreds of feet tall, that is a holiday-sensory-overload, better than Santa’s workshop for me! It did not feel like Christmas until I walked beneath the festive limbs of those massive, majestic trees.

The sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas are what I love; the faint sound of that hand held bell ringing always reminds me to count my blessings and to stop by and give to those who are less fortunate, embrace the true spirit of the season.

Cinnamon pinecones stop me in my tracks, but the best smell of the season, for me, is walking into the fresh cut Christmas tree lot, that is my, most favorite, all-consuming aroma! The mix of Balsams and Frasiers, the freshly cut trunks with free flowing sap emit a smell that no candle has ever produced, a true Christmas tree lot scent, it is the best!

Customers just love walking into the Home Depot Christmas tree lot and just inhaling.... that smell triggers memories and kick starts the holiday season for so many people.

I had a wonderful kick-start for this season.... I recently visited Cavicchio Greenhouses in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Cavicchios supply,  many, many Home Depots in the New England region with Poinsettias, premium holiday greens, and beautiful festive potted cut green products, along with wreaths, roping, and the ever-popular, very traditional, New England kissing ball.

A visit to Cavicchios is a dream come true for me, it is far better than Santa’s Workshop; it is right up there with the Boston Common, I name Cavicchios,  "The Kingdom of Christmas”!

The products that come from the assembly lines at Cavicchios, are made with the freshest cut greens and are touched by many, many hands before they are packed for shipping. Santas elves have nothing on these skilled workers. The quality control at facility is perfection only; every item made is inspected and approved before its arrival at The Home Depot.

The greens specialists at Cavicchios work together with one another in rhythm creating traditional old favorites and trending “new traditions” in holiday décor. The piecework is precise and was found to be a challenge when a few visitors tried their hand working the assembly line; a great time was had by all!

The welcoming wreath at the top of this post is 10 feet across, and weighs close to 500 lbs. and took, two people, working six hours, to piece the wreath together. The wreath has to be transported on a flatbed truck and needs a crane to hoist and hang it….impressive!

Check out the misting station that keep the product fresh!

berries and twigs all ready to be shipped!

I had goosebumps the entire time I walked the greenhouses! The smell of the fresh cut greens filled the air, (talk about sensory overload) not only was I surrounded by the most beautiful displays of fresh, gorgeous Christmas greens and plants; I also walked with people passionate about the green industry who want to bring only the finest holiday products to The Home Depot customers.

Viewing all of the quality holiday products that are on the way to, The Home Depot, was delightful, my holiday spirit is in overdrive!

Stop by your local Home Depot, shop all the beautiful traditional and trending Christmas products, and immerse your senses into the spirit of the season! The Home Depot has everything you need to fill your home, inside and out, and create your own “Kingdom of Christmas”.
