Thanks for your question and welcome to the community.

Where you referring to the pull switch that controls the ceiling fan, or was it for a ceiling fan?

If it's for the former, you'll need to make sure that the replacement ceiling fan motor switch (sold at your local Home Depot store) is wired exactly in the same configuration as the old one. 

With that said, DO NOT take the wires off without first noting or taking a picture of how it is set up now.  You'll need to use the same wires that are coming from the motor itself; as the new switch does not have any.
