I am refinishing an old tredle sewing machine -the veneer has bubbled off an i want to replace it, How to I apply new veneer. I see the one I can purchase from Lowe's is Iron on but cannot determine how the wood veneer from home depot is applied
Thanks for your question and welcome to the community!
Some veneers, like the one you purchased from Lowes can be ironed on, but most I have found can be adhered to the subtrate they are going onto with contact cement. I couldn't find the exact veneer you would looking for, would you mind giving us a SKU or a link, since I can't find it.
Let us know what type of veneer you want, and we can go from there.
Can you paint or stain veneer?
You would use an oil-based primer, tinted to be similar to your new color; allow to dry about two-hours and coat with your paint of choice.
You would use PolyShades, stain and polyurethane in-one; lightly sand original surface with 220-grit; and apply two coats of Polyshades about six-hours apart.
Most veneer comes with peel-and-stick adhesive; simply peel-and-stick ... making very certain the veneer is exactly aligned the first time (you will not be able to remove or adjust once stuck).
thank you PatinPaint! that is a huge help
