This is how I spent my Thanksgiving weekend
This is where I have been keeping my tools. I decided I wanted to clean up and organize this for a proper workshop. At first I considered getting rid of the steel cabinet and building a wood work bench. After some thought I decided it would look very sharp to clean this up and paint it in HD Orange and Black.
This is a close up of how rusty and grimy the cabinets were:
Notice how clean it is where the handles are located. I removed those and soaked them in a 1:1 solution of hot water and white vinegar. After soaking them for a while I took them out and scrubbed them with an old toothbrush. They look brand new!
My first step was to sand down the cabinets (of course wearing a protective mask) to get a good starting surface. Based on the recommendation of the paint desk at my local store I selected Rust-Oleum Preventative Primer (102-365). This would help address the rust problems and also give me a great surface to paint over. This is how the cabinets looked after 2 coats of the primer:
Next I painted the cabinets black while keeping the two middle doors bare so I could use my nice orange color. I continued the HD color theme onto the pegboard since I wanted to do something a little different. Both paint colors used the Glidden Premium High Gloss (446-025). Here are the results:
I also added a Husky Storage cabinet (already had the sticker at my house):
To finish the project I purchased the 43 Piece Pegboard Organizer Kit from Crown Bolt (472-944). This was a great starter kit and I only had to get a few additional pieces to meet my needs. Hard to believe how far this project came. I started with nothing and ended up with this!
I'm so happy with how this project turned out! Everything from the paint to the pegboard to the hardware used to create this was from HD!
That looks great! I didn't even realize at first that you used the same cabinet.
What an amazing job you did. I really like how you incorporated the peg board in your overall color theme.
You really showed how you can take a cabinet in bad condition and turn it in to something awesome.
Great job. Thanks for the SKU numbers you used on your project.
Awsome! Now what's your first project going to be?:smileylol:
You have inspired me to make a new work space in my basement! Having a bright, clean, organized, station dedicated and ready at any time for fixing and creating projects is a DIY ers dream come true!! My favorite part is that you made the old cabinets, new again!! Well done!
