How To Carve A Pumpkin

Pumpkin carving is one of the most popular activities of the Halloween season.

It's time to get the family together and have some fun!

 

 

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS JOB:
ToolsMaterials

Pumpkin Carving Kit

Pumpkin
Spray Paint (Optional)
Cloth



Step 1: Clean Your Pumpkin

With a damp cloth, wipe the outside skin of the pumpkin.

 

Step 2: Carve Out The Bottom

Using a knife (or keyhole saw) cut a circular opening from the bottom of your pumpkin.

 

 

Step 3: Clean and Scrap Out the Flesh

Clean out the seeds, strings, and flesh with a spoon or plastic scraper. Scrap the inner pulp away from the area you plan to carve until the pumpkin's inner wall are about an inch thick.

 

Step 4: Attach Your Pattern

Tape the pattern to your pumpkin. Make the pattern as smooth as possible over the surface.

 

Step 5: Transfer the Pattern

Transfer the pattern by poking holes with a needle tool or pounce wheel. When the design is completely transferred remove the paper.

 

Step 6: Carve Out the Design

Hold the pumpkin in your lap, and with a miniature saw, carve along the pattern.

Tip: Prevent exposed areas of the pumpkin's flesh from turning brown by applying a film of Vaseline.

 

Step 7 (optional): Spray Paint

Spray paint your pumpkin the color of your choice. (Pictured: Metallic Gold)

 

Step 8: Light It Up!

Place your pumpkin over a battery operate light and watch your pumpkin come to life!
