Looking for some space saving in a small kitchen. Installing an over the range microwave would be amazing and free up space from the counter. How do I go about doing that? Note: there is currently no cabinets or a range hood above the stove currently. Any advice will be great.
Most (maybe all, I just don't know) OTR microwaves mount to a bracket installed on the wall behind the microwave AND to the underside of a cabinet above the range. You'd have to install something to support the microwave.
Thank you Adam. So does that mean you either have an exhaust vent over the stove or an over the range microwave or is there some kind of hybrid?
Hi C_Smith,
Over the range microwaves, have a fan and light just like a range hood and take the place of a range hood.
The exhaust from the vent can be directed back into the room or out through an existing or new roof vent.
Mike,
An OTR microwave would replace a vent but they can also be configured to work without a vent (they just recirculate the air into the room). What you need is something above the microwave to support it. As it said, that's typically a cabinet but you don't have one. You would need to add a cabinet or some kind of shelf to support the microwave.
the microwave is a hybrid no vent needed
