Military discount not for all vets?

It has been going around Veteran pages on social media for years that Home Depot doesn't offer the Military discount year round or that some locations don't or not to all Vets..... Some Vets are claiming that they are declined the discount because they don't have a service connected disability rating. is this true? It may be the ID's that are accepted, for example you cant get a VA ID without service connected disability. would a DD-214 be accepted at the register?

Secondly, why can't I seem to find a corporate Policy on the military discount online? Is it left to each location or region or state to set their own policy and as a result some locations actually don't honor the discount? can I get a link to the corporate policy if their is one?

Hi LazyMike,

We do have a corporate policy and you may ask to see a copy at any Home Depot store. We do not limit our military discount to disabled veterans, in fact all veterans and their immediate family qualify for the discount. Certain products and services are excluded from the discount and we are not offering a military discount for online purchases at this time. If you have any questions about the military discount please ask to speak to the store manager at your local Home Depot.

You would likely not be able to find much if any information about military discounts on as this benefit is only available in stores.  Let me share with you what information I have on how this discount policy is handled at our retail stores.

Please note the difference between the Every Day Match Policy and the Holiday Match Policy.

Every Day Match Policy: 10% discount for all active-duty, reserve, retiree and disabled service members, and their dependents, from the six U.S. military branches: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard (Air and Army), and Navy

Holiday Match Policy:  10% discount to ALL military personnel during many national holidays such as July 4th, Memorial Day, and Veteran’s Day as a tribute to their service.  In addition to the above personnel, it includes honorably discharged veterans.

§ Only available for In-Store purchases and does not apply to online transactions

§ A valid Military ID must be presented at the time of purchase in-store

§ The owner of the ID must be the purchaser present

§ IDs cannot be sent electronically and will not be reviewed

§ Not applicable on previous purchases and an adjustment cannot be made in store for an online purchase.

§ The 10% discount is for in-stock and special-order purchases up to $5,000.

Discount cannot be used on sales at, on previous sales, on sales of services, including freight, delivery, or labor SKUs or on gift cards. The discounts cannot be combined with other promotions or on previous purchases. Holiday or Everyday Matching Military discounts are for personal use only and the transaction is not to be affiliated with a Job Name or Pro Key tag and is not to be paid for with a commercial credit card or GSA account. SKU Exclusions: Many of the products we sell have a unique pricing model, including commodity goods. As commodity prices fluctuate, we will at times exclude certain SKUs within specific departments from receiving the military discount.

Hi Chris,

I have a New Jersey Drivers licence with Veteran on it. They required a copy my honorable discharge and a copy of my DD214.  Just recently Home Depot refused to honor this. Why is that? What proof does Home Depot require?

I was just recently told that I had to sign up online for the military discount and that showing Id at the register was no longer being done.  Is this true?
