My Honeywell thermostat showed "replace battery". How do i open the cover to see the type of battery

For the air conditioning/furnance unit for cooling and heating.

Some new thermostats have a new design, which can be more difficult to open. This video ( New 5.2 Honeywell RTH2300B / RTHL221B ) might help if you have one of these new-style of thermostats. Of course, since your thermostat is probably already secured to the wall, separating the thermostat from its backing plate becomes LESS difficult; instead of grasping the unit with two hands, you may need to use a screwdriver, or two, to gently rock the bottom of the thermostat away from the backing plate. However, I've found that with this particular unit, the gentle rocking motion of my fingertips is sufficient, as long as I'm gently rocking the two BOTTOM corners of THE FACE PLATE away from the wall.
