Removing asbestos tiles

Is it generally recommended to hire someone to remove asbestos tiles, or is it relatively easy to follow guidelines to remove them ourselves?

Thank you!

Some states will allow homeowners to remove small areas of asbestos, you should check with your local EPA.  Obviously asbestos exposure entails some risk and it’s obviously lower if you follow proper precautions and use PPE (although I’m not sure how easy it is to find that PPE now).

Understand too that “abatement” includes and assuming the floor tiles aren’t damaged, just going over them with floating floor like laminate or LVT.

The big downside is that you really screw it up and have asbestos all over your home instead of just in your floor tiles...

Hi Jules1,

Do not attempt to remove asbestos tiles yourself, have a professional abatement service do the job. Most states now require this be done by a professional. The risk is too high.
