Hi. My front door has an existing storm door that I want to replace. I had our siding done recently and they put an aluminum wrap that overlaps the storm door frame. I can install the new door frame over the wrap, but how do I remove the old frame (that's a little under the wrap) without damaging the wrap? (I really don't want to remove and re-accomplish the wrap.)
You can install the storm door over the aluminum wrap provided the wood underneath is good and can hold a screw. If the current wrap prevents you from removing the existing storm door & frame, then that's a decision for you to make. Typically a Home Depot installer will not install a storm door over aluminum wrap because they cannot see what is beneath the wrap. Aluminum wrap is a wonderful thing provided insects don't find a home there at some point.
To remove the old storm door frame you will need to carefully remove the staples that hold the aluminum in those areas, peel away the aluminum then unscrew the door frame.
Thank you Angelo for briefing us how to remove old storm door without damaging the main door and the wraps, will keep you posted if anything goes wrong.
