I am almost done finishing our third floor to make into our kids playroom. I was looking at cork sub flooring then padding then carpet. Will this be the most effective method of sound proofing the stairs and room?

Hey Oren,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the community.

You'll need to first ensure that the existing subfloor is sound and secure to its floor joists before installing ANY added subfloor/padding/floor.

Check for any creaks and uneven areas and address them before any installation over it is done. No matter how well an underlayment or carpet pad will be, it will only be as good of a foundation if you take care of the existing subfloor first.

Once that is done, you can then place a cork underlayment first, and then the padding/carpet of your choice.

Carpet is a great choice for a kids playroom, so keep us updated on your progress. And as always, if you have any further questions, please do not hestiate to ask.
