Hi haku,

Mandevilla is climbing vine with colorful blooms ... an excellent direct sun grower.
It is well suited for your Hawaiian climate.

I like adding a medium-size trellis for the vine to climb.

Madevilla's dark green foliage and brilliant-colored trumpet blooms will enhance your sun porch continuously in your climate and it may even survive winter if taken indoors when night time temps drop below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Check your local store for availability.

Hope this helps,

Howdy Haku,

There are a large amount of plants available to plant. Usually something a Phoenix Roebelenii, Musa Banana, or Sago Palm is a great start for a tropical look. If you’re looking for color then a Cordyline is always a great choice to have some deep colors.

The great news is your local Home Depot will carry what will grow in your area. This takes the guess work out of “what will and what will not grow”. How easy is that?

If you post some photos we can put our heads together and come up with some ideas for you.

Happy Growing,

Coach Dave
