Winter Weed Control

The winter season is an active one here in Atlanta.

Our Bermuda lawns are not as evenly brown in color as we want for the dormant season.

Some of the weeds are downright lush! The poa-annua is thriving in my yard. Of course, if I desired a lawn of this grass I would be reminded that poa-annua will not grow in the summer!

I preach and often practice weed control with Pre Emergent. I apply Lesco Pre-M every three months on my Bermuda lawn. 0-0-7 in January, 19-0-7 in April and July to feed the lawn during the growing season.

My current crop of Poa-Annua, chickweed and henbit would have been prevented had I not missed the October application of 0-0-7.

These weeds can be controlled with an application of IMAGE Nutsedge Killer. Apply it to the lawn, allow it to dry for 24 hours. After that, water it in within a week if it doesn't rain.

IMAGE is safe to use in Bermuda, Zoysia, Buffalo grass and Centipede grass all year round. Do not use in fescue.

If you apply pre emergent each season, the need for post emergent herbicide will be greatly reduced.

Until next time, I'll see you in the aisles!
