giant green arborvitae potted size

Hi
Any thoughts on buying 3ft vs 5ft giant green arborvitae potted plants? What are the pros and cons of each?

Thank you

Hello smk.  Welcome to the Community!

The advantages to the smaller plant will be price and ease of planting.  You will have less work to do in digging the hole.  It will require somewhat less water to soak the smaller root area each week during its first year, even though you will still have to water it frequently.

The larger plant will cost more and take more effort to plant.  It's heavier and needs a bigger hole.  It also will need weekly watering, and more water as the root area is larger.

These are fast growing plants, but not in the first year.  They will both be busy re-establishing a root system and that is why watering each week is critical.  After a year or so they will become drought tolerant and begin to grow well in their new home.  If you plant one of each next to each other, the larger one will be that foot or two taller until they both reach maturity.
