leaky shower

Our shower head started dripping water recently. The water is coming out of the holes in the shower head, not from the threaded part, so it’s not loose and is sealed well. It’s only about 6 months old and has worked great for us up until now. For reference, this is a shower only, not shower/bath combo. The water is completely shut off. If I unscrew the shower hard and remove it, there is a bunch of water that drains out of the pipe that was stuck behind the shower head. I am unsure yet if that water continues to come from the pipe once that initial water spills out. Any ideas on why it is leaking or how to fix it? Is it just the shower head or is there a bigger issue causing that water to be behind the shower head? Thanks for your help.

Hello kjpayne, and welcome to the Community!

The problem is not the shower head but the valve that turns on the water, probably just below the shower head. It sounds like you need to replace the washers or cartridge in the valve. If you could post pictures or if you could tell us the model number then we could find the instructions on how to open up the valve.

Hello again kjpayne,

Below is a link to the owners manual and on page 10 it shows you how to tell which part you have once you have removed it. Make sure you shut off the water to that part of the house then turn on the water in the nearest sink to remove any water pressure, do this before removing anything.

The link below shows an exploded view of your shower handle & valve. The Seats and Springs part RP4993 could be the reason for the leak, but if you replace the cartridge #RP46074, this will take care of all the washers and O-rings.
