Hi 3 cowboys,

Delta shower valve leaks are caused by defective seats and springs on older models, or a defective ceramic disk cartridge on the newer models.

To repair the older models the seats and springs must be replaced, on the newer models the cartridge must be replaced.

To repair your shower valve, shut off the water supply, remove the handle, ball type faucets have a collar which unscrews to reveal the ball, springs and seats. Remove the ball, springs and seats.

Cartridge type valves have screws retaining the cartridge, remove the screws and take the cartridge out.

Take the defective parts to your local Home Depot. Our plumbing associates will assist you in selecting the appropriate repair parts.

Hi Spinach,

Mike is away for a day,

When removing the collar, think "righty tighty, lefty loosey."

The pipe wrench is a good idea.

However, on polished metal finishes I prefer a strap wrench.
