Recently I was helping a customer who wanted to update her kitchen – particularly her backsplash. Many of my customers prefer the 4” backsplash (in the same material as the countertop) or a tile backsplash. I have written about the Kitchen Backsplash Idea Book and gave quick tips for working with glass tile backsplashes. But this customer wanted something more modern and “edgier.”
We looked at the metal backsplashes (copper and stainless steel). They were beautiful but would not fit into my customer’s budget. So we looked at the decorative thermoplastic panels. My store carries an assortment of these panels, matching trims, outlet covers, and special adhesive tape. But I have to admit that we were wowed when we saw the selections in the Special Order book!

Fasade backsplash tiles are 18″ x 24.″ There are dozens of styles and finishes available. Click here for the backsplash tile and trim calculator to determine how many tiles, J-trim, and corners you will need to complete your project.
Cut the backsplash panels to size using a utility knife (with fresh blades), scissors, or tin snips. Before installing backsplash panels, cut all pieces to size and make sure that they all fit perfectly in place and will overlap properly. When overlapping, leave a 1/16″ space for expansion. You can use tube adhesive or double-sided tape adhesive strips to affix the panels to your wall. Click here for complete installation instructions and an action video.
Cleaning and Upkeep
Upkeep is easy! Clean only with warm, soapy water. Using a high-quality auto polish can help protect the finish. NEVER use abrasive cleaners such as Scotchbrite Pads or Brillo Pads since they may harm the finish on the panels.
Just a quick note to follow-up: this company also makes ceiling panels, wall panels, and crown molding in decorative thermoplastic.
