12 year old concrete steps

How do I keep rain water from penetrating the concrete and rusting/expanding metal brackets and reinforcement (set into each step). I want to prevent my steps from cracking or falling off main beam.

Not sure if images uploaded. Here they are again. In case they don't show: My question is about maintaining outdoor concrete steps that are individually attached to a single beam.

Hi xxx007,

Behr Solid Color Concrete Stain contains both colorant and waterproofing.

It can be color matched to existing colors on your exterior or ordered in Fresh Cement ... a natural color choice when working over your cement stairs.

This water-based product is simple to use.

Simply spray, roll, or brush two coats, waiting about four-hours between coats.

Each gallon will cover between 400- and 600-square feet ... enough to coat attached walkways or a cement patio.

Consider using Behr Concrete Cleaner Etcher to remove any stains and open the pores of the cement before applying stain.

After etching, rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow to dry six-hours before applying stain.
