4 Basic Things To Consider When Choosing a Hitch for Utility Trailer

User-added image

1. You must know the gross vehicle weight and the grow vehicle towing weight allowed by the vehicle manufacture, whether it is a small or large car or a small or large truck. This tells you how much weight you are allowed to tow with your vehicle and this helps you choose the right hitch.

2. One of the most basic types of hitch for a car or truck is a bumper hitch. This type of hitch bolts right on to the bumper. Ensure your bumper is made for towing.

3. One of the most common trailer hitches is called a class 3. This is the type that comes with many full size pickup trucks and SUV’s that have a towing package. This type of hitch will give you 6,000 pounds of towing capacity.

4. One thing to think about in purchasing a hitch is what will I be towing and will I be towing different types of trailers? If you are this class of buyer, then you might consider purchasing an adjustable ball mount or tri ball ball-mount. This will allow you to get the most use out of your hitch.
