I have the above fan. It works great with the exception that the High and Medium speeds seem to be reversed. Also the medium speed, which is the fastest, doesn't seem to be as fast as High should be. So it might be that the Medium speed is correct and the High is just way to slow.
Please help.
Thanks
Tom

Hello tradio and welcome to the Community.

I would like to direct you to a Hampton Bay ceiling fan help line.

Be prepared with the model and serial number before you call, so they can best assist you.  These numbers can usually be found on the underside of the motor.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Hi tradio,

Check to ensure your wall switch is not a light dimmer ... which will not operate a fan properly.

Your fan should operate either on a standard On/Off switch or a fan dimmer switch.

If your wall switch meets fan standards, it is possible that your fan speed switch is failing.

This Three speed fan switch is available at your local store in the fan repair section of the Electrical Department.

The light kit, blades, and lower motor shroud must come off to remove the old switch.

The brass retaining nut unscrews and the old switch pulls inward to release from the motor housing.

The color-coded electrical wires on the new switch wing nut into the same configuration as the original switch.

Then the pull chain and new switch-base slide through the opening and are attached with the brass retaining nut.

Reassemble the housing, blades, and light kit and you should regain three unique speeds from your fan.

On a 1-to-10 difficulty scale where 10 is most difficult, this repair is a 3 ... only because you have to remove several parts to access the switch.

Ask your Electrical Associate for assistance locating the three speed switch ... or use The Home Depot app which has a locator function to assist you (Android app also available).

If these steps seem beyond your expectations, call the 877 number provided by Char and ask for alternative solutions.

NOTE:
The three speed fan switch is not interchangeable with the On/Off pull-chain light switch.

Hope this helps,

Hi tradio.

There are 2 ways I know of that could present a situation where a fan works on all 3 speed settings, but not in the correct order.

First is if someone had replaced the speed switch Pat has talked about, and did not attach the wires in the correct order.  This would still give you a high speed, but not in the sequence you are accustomed to.  The speed switch is just that, a switch.  It does not itself control speed, but simply applies full voltage to the fan in an "off-on-on-on" mode.

Since you don't appear to have a high speed at all, but do have power to the fan when on "high" then that leads me to the one item that actually controls the motor speed.  This is called the capacitor, which is typically a group of capacitors all bundled into one component with a number of wires attached.  The fix for this, as Char has mentioned, would be to contact the Hampton Bay customer service team.  The replacement capacitor has very specific values, and needs to be the right one to restore proper operation to your fan.

Chris.
