About Painting a bedroom

Hi there,

How much paint an average bedroom of 10x11 feet would need?  I'm aware I'll need primary as well.

Any tips are welcome.

Hopefully I'll get your answer soon.

Thank you,

The formula for area of a wall is length times height.  So you would have

8' x 10' x 2 = 160 sq. ft.
8' x 11' x 2 = 176 sq. ft.
             = 336 sq. ft.

From that you can subtract windows and doors using the same formula.

Most paint covers (realistically) about 300 square feet per gallon.  And you'll want to use two coats, so you would need two gallons.

Primer is only necessary for bare surfaces (like new drywall) or if you're doing a drastic color change.

You do want to make sure you clean the walls and patch any nail holes, dings, etc.  Some painters will run a drywall screen over the entire surface of the wall just to knock off any high spots for a smoother finish.

WOW Sary,

We recently produced a "How To" video and wrote a thread to answer your question:

Since you originally asked, sary, Behr has introduced Marquee interior paints.

Behr guarantees one coat coverage in the palette specially created for Marquee and has recently added 550 traditional Behr colors to the list.

So, when calculating paint required for your project, you'll only need to account for one coat when using Marquee.

It'll save both time and money.

Give it a try!

Hello again Sary,

Another consideration when painting any room is which sheen to use.

We recently produced this video describing different sheen and their common use.
