Annual Geraniums

Annual Geraniums

Amend the soil with proper amendments for your soil type.

Fertilizer: Slow release granular Vigoro Flower Food or Water soluble Miracle Gro LiquiFeed

Best way to kill this plant is to over water it. Geraniums are drought resistant and prefer to dry out between waterings. Ivy geraniums have a ivy shaped leaf and hang down, perfect for hanging baskets. Zonal geraniums refers to geraniums that are more durable geraniums with bigger blooms.  You will need to deadhead spent flowers in order to get them to rebloom. Geraniums come in pinks, reds, orange and white colors.

The reason we plant annuals in our yard every year instead of just planting a yard full of perennials is because annuals bloom so much longer. Perennials typically will bloom for a month or so and then the show is over until next year. Annuals will bloom from early spring all the way until fall when the cold weather arrives. Incorporating annuals into a perennial garden is a great way to keep color around between gaps in perennials bloom cycles.
