Marigolds not only look great in annual flowerbeds but you will often find them planted around crops, as they are said to repel pests and their beautiful flowers invite pollinators like bees and butterflies to assist in pollination, in turn, producing us larger yields with our veggies.

This plant can handle 3 hours of shade in hotter climates and grows well in many different growing conditions. Burpee seed says that marigolds will bloom better in poor to average soil because nutrient rich soil will get it to produce more leaves and less flowers. More phosphorus and less nitrogen will fix this and that will also help your garden produce more flowers for fruit and less leaves.

Be sure to put down 2 inches of mulch like pine bark mini nuggets or pine mulch around them to hold in moisture and prevent you from having to water them every day during the hot months. Marigolds do not do well in soggy areas and do like a well drained soil.
