New Guinea impatiens are so well known for their beautiful, heavily serrated, variegated leaves. It has become a great fill in, in the absence of the garden impatiens, which has become plagued with Downy Mildew. New Guinea Impatiens are resistant of Downy Mildew.

New Guinea Impatiens will do better in full shade than they will do in full sun. Afternoon shade is actually ideal for them in hotter climates. Full shade will produce fewer blooms and make them leggy.

When planting New Guineas, plant them in spring so they can establish a strong root system before the heat of summer, as they require lots of water in the summer.
When planting put 2 inches of pine bark mini nuggets or pine mulch around the plants to hold in moisture to keep from always having to watering them. Water regularly for the first month, until established and then just when needed.
