Annual Petunias

Annual Petunias

Sun exposure: 6 hours or more sun, full sun preferred

Spacing: 8 to 12 inches

Bloom time: spring and summer

Soil: Miracle Gro Garden Soil, Soil Conditioner, Black Kow Cow Manure

Amend the soil with proper amendments for your soil type.

Fertilizer: Slow release granular Vigoro Flower Food or Water soluble Miracle Gro LiquiFeed

Establish Petunias in early spring before summer heat, as water demands in summer will make it hard to establish otherwise. Plant in a nutrient rich raised bed consisting of garden soil and composted manure for best results. Put down 2 inches of mulch like pine bark mini-nuggets or pine mulch to hold in moisture. In warmer climates you may need to water petunias daily during the summer.

The reason we plant annuals in our yard every year instead of just planting a yard full of perennials is because annuals bloom so much longer. Perennials typically will bloom for a month or so and then the show is over until next year. Annuals will bloom from early spring all the way until fall when the cold weather arrives. Incorporating annuals into a perennial garden is a great way to keep color around between gaps in perennials bloom cycles.
