Attic Insulation

I want to insulate the underside of a sloped roof (slate roof on plywood) to reduce the solar heat gain into a vented attic.  I am considering R-19 paper-faced fiberglass roll.  Is this the best option?

That is not a bad choice, make sure that you have a one inch air gap between the underside of the plywood and the new added insulation. This can be achieved by adding attic vent chutes to maintain an air channel to direct air flow, allowing unconditioned attics to vent properly. See the URL below titled "roofing ventilation"  then scroll down a ways to the title "Proper Ventilation" This should give you a good idea of how the attic vent chutes work. Greg G Kapitan
