Hi Shorterporter08,

Welcome to The Community!! Thanks for joining.

Those are Japanese beetles devouring your plants. They swarm out of the ground during the summer, fly up to the trees and munch on the leaves.

The good news, if there is any, is that they only last for about 6 weeks before they return to the soil to lay eggs for next year's onslaught.

Insecticides such as Sevin Dust or Liquid Sevin are very effective killers of these and other beetles. Apply either form to the plant when you see the beetles in your area.

Hello Shorterporter08.

You live far enough south that at this point these beetles will very soon disappear.

I would give some thought to early spring grub treatment next year to try an minimize the number of beetles that emerge.  You can use nematodes or grub pesticides sometime around April.

Chris.
