Burnt wire into inline switch

I have vanity lights above a bathroom mirroe and the switch isn't working. The cord just above the inline switch is burnt slightly and the wire smoked when it broke. I'm sure the fix isn't too difficult, just need to know what I'll need and the details. Thanks!

Hi Matochu,

The fix is relatively simple. You can purchase a new inline switch at your local Home Depot.

Cut the wire above the damaged section and below the existing switch, and then install the new switch on the wire.

The associates at your local HD will show you how to install it.

If the cord turns out to be too short after removing the defective section, you can purchase more wire and rewire the fixture.

If you are unsure how to do this just remove the fixture and take it with you to the store. Our associates in the electrical department will show you how to do it.
