Can I cover a 32x14 air intake vent with kitchen cabinets if there is another vent on other side?

I am going to change the layout of my kitchen. I want to put new kitchen cabinets to the right of the door, which will cover the vent. But if you open that door, it's the laundry room and there is a vent the same size right there. My question is do I need 2 of those vents? Can I cover one of them up?

Hi Mwill,

Eliminating a return vent will change the circulation of heat and air through your kitchen and surrounding areas.

Hypothetically, it was installed to serve the adjacent space.

I would consult your HVAC contractor ... the person that services your HVAC unit(s).

It may be that they will suggest an alternative location, or you might find that you can eliminate that return vent.

Please take time to come back and share your contractor's solution.

But I would be reluctant to simply cover that return without replacing with one or more with equal ability.
