Because the crackle finish is considered to be a "textured" finish - you will have to compensate for the difference by filling in the low areas.

Here are the steps to prepare the wall for painting.

  1. Lightly sand the walls with a sanding pole to knock down any high points.
  2. Patch the low "crackle" areas with a thin coat of drywall compound.
  3. Sand the surface smooth with the sanding pole.
  4. Apply a coat of primer.
  5. Paint 2 coats paint.

3-1/4 in. x 9-1/4 in. Tuff-Lock Pole Sander 1-Gallon All-Purpose Pre-Mixed Joint Compound  1-Gal. Latex Drywall Interior Primer 1-Gal. Ultra Pure White Satin Enamel Exterior Paint
