Can I shorten the linear length of my upper cabinets?

My mom has a tiny cabin with no cabinets. I found some free ones on the internet and want to refinish and install them for her. Currently they are to long (picture two big doors on left, two small doors in middle, two big doors on the right.) I need to cut the big door on the far left off. So in the end there would be one big door on the left, two small doors in the middle and two big doors on the right. Is this reasonable? Possible? Any suggestions on how? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Howdy Didnt-I,

I have seen some attemps at trying to resize cabinets over the years. While the sides are not too difficult, there is very little room for error. As for resizing the door(s), lot depends on how well the door is put together & if you can reshape the panel after cutting it down. It takes a lot of hand work and usually never comes out right.

It can be done if you spend many weekends, but if your time and labor is worth anything, purchasing a new cabinet is by far the cheapest and easiest way to go. Sometimes in life you have to weigh out the variables and choose the simplest options.
