Can the porcelain holder for a light bulb be painted by acrylic paint (art paint) or is it a fire hazard?

Can the porcelain holder for a light bulb be painted or is it a fire hazard.   I repurposed  a ceiling fan into a farmhouse style with wire baskets as shades. The bulb holders are white and visible. I would like to tone them down.

Hey ShirleyA,

Thanks for joining us here on the community.

If you use an water-based paint (which is what acrylic art paint is), then it can be safe to use.

However, to successfully bond the paint to the surface, you'll need to first prime it. Whether it's oil or water based, just make sure the primer and paint are completely dry before using it for any lighting.

Once everything is dry, no fumes or anything will occur to cause a fire hazard.

Let us know if you have any further questions,

Joseph
