Can you change the top color of a crackle finish and keep the crackle?

I recently purchased a dresser with a white and silver crackle finish, and I love the cracklie finish, but because I live in an apartment with all white walls and am not allowed to paint, I'd like to change the finish to black and silver but don't want to lose the crackle finish.  Is it possible to maintain the cracklie finish while changing the top color (white) to black?

Welcome to our community MarissaMarxen,

My name is Christine and I work in the paint department at Home Depot.

In order to do this, you will have to purchase both a black paint and a silver glaze. We sell a metallic silver glaze by Martha Stewart that would work well for your project. The first thing you should do is paint everything black. Then, after the paint as dried go over the piece with the silver glaze. The glaze will fall into the cracks of the crackle. Before the glaze dries, wipe off the metallic paint that is on the black. You may have to apply the glaze a few times for it to be as bright as you would like.

I hope this helps you out.

Please let us know if you need anything else!
