Can you paint over tile?

I recently bought a house, and we are doing lots of renovations. Things are going good, except for the bathroom. It has PINK tile. Don't have the $ for a whole new tile job, or to have it re-glazed. Can you paint the tile a new color. I've heard mixed results. Some say yes, others say no. Can someone give me a straight answer

RDUB,

The only products that will hold up in a shower/tub environment are catalized epoxies. The RustOleum Company has such a product which is carried at the Home Depot called "Tile Transformations". You can watch a vidio about it at ;  www.rustoleumtransformations.com/tile/

If painting tile outside of a shower/tub area, conventional paints can be used if the tile is first primed with a product such as Zinsser's BIN pigmented shellac sealer. BIN has incredible adhesion to slick surfaces such as tile and glass.

Hope this has helped
