Unfortunately not.  Stain can only be applied to raw wood.

Adam is correct that finished wood will not accept stain. Hoever, you might consider using Minwax PolyShades. This is a urethane varnish with pigment in suspension in it. It can change the look of a finish chair by applying a tinted varnish over it.

You will want to clean the chairs well to remove dirt and oils from hands. Follow this with a light scuff sanding with 220 sandpaper. Use a quality natural bristle brush to apply the PolyShades. Because the pigment is in the varnish, ever additional coat will continue to darken the finish.

PolyShades is also available in spray cans, although it is not carried in the Home Depot stores.

Hope this has helped.
