Can you use a appliance gas line instead of black pipe to gas furnace?

Thank you for your question and welcome to our community.

 

Using a furnace gas line will be fine if it is coming directly from a valve which is in the same location as your furnace, otherwise it would not be a very safe option to use.

Black pipe is by far the easiest and the safest way to pipe gas to your gas furnace thru the attice or under a raised foundation.  You would be better off using the Flexi  gas pipe rather than the appliance hose if you are planning on a distance longer than 4-5 feet.

For long distances, the black pipe is much safer because it reduces punctures if disturbed.
