Hi Cherylb.  Welcome to the COmmunity!

Let me start off with a couple of questions.

Are you planning to take out one of the can lights and install a fan at that location?

Do you have a suspended ceiling with a metal grid and ceiling tiles?

If you are simply replacing a can light in a conventional ceiling, then you will need a ceiling box that is fan rated for weight and suitably braced like this one:

These are very handy since you will not have to enlarge the existing hole in order to install the brace and box.

In addition, you will need to have an independent source of power for your new fan.  If you use the existing can light wiring, then it will be on a switch so that the fan will only work when the lights are on.

Once the new fan box is in and wired, the rest of the installation will be clearly shown in the guide that comes with the fan.

If you have a suspended ceiling then you will need a special kind of mounting box.

It will look something like this:

You can see that the weight bearing load of this box is transferred to the ceiling joists above the track system.  The grid just cannot handle the load, so a special fixture like this is needed.

Home Depot does not stock this fixture either on-line or in stores, but it can be special ordered from your local store.

The fixture is made by Arlington Industries.

The part number is FBRS420SC.  The special order SKU for Arlington Industries is 374-740.

With these 2 numbers you can order this item from any Home Depot store.

Is this what you are looking for?

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
