Ceiling fan blade doesn't turn

Just bought and installed a Hampton Bay 736372 ceiling fan and light. The light works fine, but the fan has never operated. When I try to turn on the fan, I get a loud buzzing and a little vibration, but the blades do not turn. When I spin the blades by hand, they move smoothly with little friction. Any ideas?

Update: if I push-start the blades with my hand, and then switch the motor on, the fan might continue to operate for a long time. However, the RPMs are about half of what the instruction manual says they should be.

Hi there Davebarber57, I’m Blake from The Home Depot out here in California. I’m sorry for both the delay in answering your question, and the problems you are having with your fan.

Because the fan is so new, I would suggest you return it to your local Home Depot to exchange it for a new working fan. It definitely sounds like a motor problem or motor wiring issue.

I hope this is helpful Dave,
