Converting an overgrown garden to a lawn

The people that lived in my house previously had a big garden in the back yard. It is now overgrown with weeds and I would like to convert it into lawn to increase the area in my backyard. What is the best way to kill all of the vegetation in such a large area? I've used weed-b-gone for small patches in the past but it would take forever for me to cover the garden area with it. Any suggestions?

Use a glyphosate based herbicide like Round Up and either a pump up sprayer or hose end sprayer.  If you have any woody stemmed plants use Round Up for Poison Ivy (even if you don't actually have poison ivy).  Either product will kill just about anything in come in contact with so be careful with it's use.
