DYI quilting table - sewing machine needle plate flush to surface

Using a desk top about 1" thick. Carving out hole for sewing machine to sit in. Want to mount the carved piece under the desk top to support the machine. Need to find brackets or something to hold the floating shelf. Muck like a desk with a keyboard tray but not slideable.

Hi lisman,

Brackets can work loose due to vibrations from the operating sewing machine. I would use wood to mount the cutout to the bottom of the table. Cut wood strips in the necessary dimension attach them to the bottom of the the table top using glue and screws and then attach the cut out piece to the wood supports. Glue and screw the pieces together.

Now you will have a permanent compartment for the machine to set into with no worry about brackets coming loose.

Howdy lisman,

I thought that I might add an idea that could work for you.

After cutting out the base portion of the desk, using a few "L Brackets" with a screw to create a Z bracket might give you the results your looking for.

If you get a chance, why not post some before, during, and after photos of your little project.

Happy Building,
