Do-It-Yourself Gift Wrapping

For last second or making a one-of-a-kind way to wrap presents, The Home Depot is actually your one stop shop!

With just a few materials, you can get an old-fashioned wrapping paper look to cover your gifts. The following items are all that's needed to give yourself a unique spin on gift giving.

Builder's Paper

Trimaco 35 in. x 140 ft. Brown Builder's Paper

Wiss 10 in. Shop Shear

Jute Twine

Everbilt #30 x 190 ft. Jute Twine Natural

Floral Stencil

DecoArt 8.5 x 11 in. Jacobean Floral Stencil

Spray Paint

STEP 1: With your builders paper, roll out and then cut how much you need with the scissors.

STEP 2: Place the item you'd like to wrap in the middle of the size of paper you've determined to use to cover the item. Measure carefully, as you can always cut too much off but not too little.

STEP 3: Make folds onto the gift so that it is covered. At this step, you can place a small amount of clear tape to bring together any folds, if needed. Cut any excessive amounts of paper if needed.

Next, use the jute string  to wrap around the paper. A good tight knot(s) can determine how snug the packaging can be. At this stage, you can opt for using the stencil/spray paint before or after wrapping it .

STEP 4: Use your stencil and spray paint to lightly apply a design onto the paper. Be as liberal or conservative with the design application. I personally left out a little space on areas where I wanted to write a message on the gift.

STEP 5: You can finalize the look of the wrapping paper by writing a personalized note on the paper. Be aware though, that the ink can and will bleed through, so take extra care not to apply it on the paper where it would transfer onto the facing of the gifts surface.

Now you can enjoy your personalized gift, with materials bought from The Home Depot!

Of course, you can always personalize  the paper further from other sources, and use ribbons in lieu of jute string. Be creative as you like, and you'll be sure to impress whomever is receiving your gift even before they open it!
