Drainage Around Shed

My 20' shed becomes an island when we have heavy rains. I am unable to contour the ground to have the water flow around the shed. What is my best solution? Pipe layed in ground covered by stone or installing an open drainage system? any ideas?

Hi crm,

Thank you for your question.

I think that your best option will be to install a French drain.  As long as you have an area that you can channel the water to, this will be a good solution for you.

French drain

Do you have an area where the water can be channeled to that goes away from your shed?  If so, a French drain will be your best choice.

You can also create a catch basin where the water can be drained into.

Your exact solution will depend on your area.  Be sure that you cover your perforated pipe with a sleeve and use weed mat under the pipe and over the gravel.  The sleeve will prevent silt from clogging up your French drain.  The weed matt will prevent roots from entering the holes in the drain pipe.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
