Epoxy Countertop dam

I am going to make my own pebble epoxy countertop in my bathroom. I understand how to do everything, but how should I make a sturdy waterproof border? Is there a way to make a removable border and sand the edges afterwards to round the edges or do I need to nail up a permanant molding?

AlliR,

If you are intending to make a fairly thick coating to cover the pebbles, you will need to dam up the edges. I would suggest using wooden lattice strips protruding up the desired amount over the surface. To assure that you will be able to remove the lattice, without them sticking to the resin, rub the surface of the lattice with carnauba wax. Carnauba is used in the fiberglass boat making industry as a release agent.

The edges can be "painted" by hand later to give the heavy varnished look. The squared edges resulting from the dams can be rounded off with sandpaper on a sanding block. Do sand the edges well first to assure that there is no residue from the carnauba on the edges

Hope this has helped.
