Extending heater vent

I need a little assistance. We purchased and assembled a new bookcase from IKEA.  When measuring the space for the bookcase, we forgot to take into account the trim on the wall.  Now, the heating vent behind the bookcase is partially obscured by the bookcase rather than blowing through an opening at the bottom of the bookcase.

I recall a segment on Bob Villa from approximately 15 years ago discussing how to extend a wall vent with flex hose, but now can't seem to find any instructions on how to do it.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Hi scadgirl,

To extend –reroute the existing vent you would need to connect the flex hose to the supply pipe rather than trying to tap into the register boot. Do you have an idea on how is this supply pipe routed to the wall? Is it accessible from the space bellow? That would be ideal…

Can you post picture or two so that I can get a sensible idea of what it needs to be done?
