Green lumber

I am building a new patio cover 12' out from the house and 24' wide.  This requires 2"X6" boards, 12' and 14' long.  Lumber in the store has a lot of moisture in it.  I believe it must be dried before painting as well as before actual construction.

How do I dry the lumber without it warping?

Welcome to our community RichardM,

The wood does need to be dry before you can do anything with it.

Wood can either be dried by a kiln or by exposing it to hot, bright sun. Check with your local lumber yard if you would like it kiln dried. If you don't get it kiln dried,  laying out each piece of wood so that it is in direct sunlight for a few days is the best way to make sure it does not warp.

Please let us know if we can help with anything else!
