Grout?

What type of grout should be used with slate tile shower walls?  Do I have to use an 1/8 in gap or can I can I use a smaller spacing?

Good morning JHavicon,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the community!

In terms of grout to use, anything that you have to mix that isn't pre-mixed is fine to use. This includes epoxy grout, which is extremely durable for showers if installed correctly.

There's actually no set rule for grout spacing; it's up to you what you'd like to place. I will say though, that anything an 1/8" or wider, you will need to use sanded grout. Anything thinner, you'd need to use non-sanded grout.

I recently wrote an article about proper grout spacing for tiles. If you want to read more information regarding this, please click here.

Please let me know if you have any further questions,

Joseph

Hello JHavicon!

Follow Joe's suggestions: 1/8th inch or wider joints require sanded grout ... all others require non-sanded grout.

This thread will help you understand the steps before and after applying grout.
