Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan AC418 stuck on LOW SPEED

I purchased the Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan AC418 Brookdale a few years back.  I love the way it looks and performs until recently.  With the remote control, I tried to switch speeds from low to medium to high.  I can hear it "click" but it stays on low speed.  I have the same fan upstairs in the master bedroom and decided to switched remotes (setting the same dipswitch pattern in the battery compartment) as the one that 's having trouble... same problem.  Clicking sound, but no change in speed.  Could it be the internal switch, resistors...?!?!  I do not want to replace it nor pay someone to attempt to fix it.  I would like to resolve the issue myself.  HELP PLEASE!!!

Sounds like the capacitors are bad.  Replacements are available but you might want to call Hampton Bay to confirm.
