Hampton Bay Ceiling fan motor stopped, light still working

Fan does not start either by wall switch or chain pull.Lighst kit still works.

Question is does the capacitor or the wires inside light kits may be bad.

Last time we switched off the running fan from wall and then it never started.

Lights still works from remote or wall switch.

Any suggestion?

No motor hmmmming noise either.Blades rotates by hand freely.

Thanks

Hey there Seth100!

Thank you for your question and welcome to the community!

We get this question quite frequently here and from what I have gathered, it sounds like you just  may need to replace your fan speed switch. I'm glad you are thinking ahead with capacitors and checking the wiring inside, but if it worked great before and now it's not working at any speed...I would say the biggest culprit would be just a simple replacement of your fan speed switch.

Depending on if it's a 2 or 3 wire (you'll need to check that out first) switch, check by turning off the breaker leading to the fan, and take apart the bottom housing holding the wiring for the fan speed. Unscrew the pull chain and replace, the fan speed switches should look a little something like this...

Try replacing it first.....this is usually the right diagnosis for getting your fan back up to speed...literally.

Hello aboveaveragejoe ,

Thanks for the reply.

I have not tried replacing 'fan speed switch' as you explained as possible solution.

We have taken all parts aparts as bare motor. As you see in picture and tried passing current directly to all possible pair.

The fan motor did not turned this a safe assumption that the fan motor is bad?

Do we need a starter capacitor to start the fan?

I also need Hampton Bay phone number so that I can start a Life Life Motor warranty claim?Do they send me new fan?

Thanks

Seth100,

I have the same issue. I troubleshot my issue the same way you did (powering the fan direct) and have the same outcome.

My wife has been working with the HB Warrenty team, but we are still having trouble. In order to troubleshoot the issue, they will send out a part at a time in an attempt to rule out the problem. The last part was supposed to be the capasitor, but they sent the wrong part.

My fan doesn't have the 3way pull switch so I can't go with that previous proposed solution.

Please let me know if you were able to resolve your issue and how.

Thanks,

CSISSON
