Hampton Fan Chain to Change Speeds is Stuck?

Hoping to get an answer to give to hubby so that he can fix this when he gets home -- he just installed our Hampton Bay fan two weeks ago and it worked perfectly. We had a cleaning crew clean the house and the chain that sets the speeds seems to now be stuck. I'm guessing they were wiping down the blades and maybe the chain was sent backwards and got tangled? Any suggestions that can resolve this??

Thank you!

Howdy gracie1205,

It sounds like your chain is stuck or damaged. The fix is usually fairly simple and straightforward so let us begin.

Start by pulling chain in a jerking motion to see if it can be “unstuck”.  If you cannot get the chain loose you may have to replace it.

To do this you will need to turn off the breaker for the fan. This is VERY important for safety and keep the fan from damage.

Next remove the cover on the housing or the globe light so you can access the switch, and unscrew the nut on the outside that holds it on.

The switch attaches to the fan with one or two screws, and the excess wires just push in the unit.

Do not remove the wires from the old switch until you get the new one. This is to ensure you have a definite reference to how the switch wired.

happy fanning,
