Hey Miwill,

Welcome to the community!

I am a Home Depot associate from the Atlanta area, and I sell quite a bit of James Hardie products in both our flooring and building materials departments. I checked this morning on James Hardie's website regarding Hardibacker can be polished or not. While I know our 3' x 5' boards for tile underlayment cannot be polished (mainly because their purpose are to be put underneath tile during the install process and are never seen anyways), were you referring to the Hardiplank lap siding? The substrate of the Hardiplank sidings, be it lap or shingle form, is made of fibered concrete. So unless you put a clear gloss coat of sealant that would adhere to the surface.  Actually polishing them just wouldn't really work due to the nature of the product.

Let me know if that was the answer you needed, and let us know if we can be of any further assistance!
